The company initially saw itself as a modern trading agency and represented various brands, especially import brands and food start-ups, with relevant buyers and category managers in the food retail trade (LEH). Based on the feedback collected through initial retailer and supplier contacts, it quickly became apparent that distribution in the food retail sector showed enormous need for optimisation. With the help of numerous analyses, discussions and tests, Foodnewcomer GmbH changed its direction significantly at the end of 2019. The company now regulates and optimises the purchasing and goods flow process between national and international drop shipment suppliers in the food / beverage sector and the German food retail trade, including Metro, Globus, Rewe, Edeka as well as selected retail chains, gastronomy partners and smaller ones. Hi, ich bin Eric Thieme, Gründer und CEO der Foodnewcomer GmbH. I have been active in the food industry since 2013. I started out as a pure importer of the Swedish cider brand “Herrljunga Cider”, which I helped to build up in Germany until the end of 2015. Even then, I had to overcome the enormous challenges in distribution and placement in retail. German suppliers and manufacturers also trusted my expertise and commissioned me to represent their brand to German food retailers. Together with my great team and the expertise of my co-founders, we design business models with a focus on the platform economy, software development and online marketing and want to create innovative solutions for B2B food retail in Europe. For this reason, we have developed Europe’s first B2B platform for distribution and logistics – CENFOOD – which we will present to you in more detail in the coming months. Our mission(s) in the coming months: We want to make food trading easier so that market participants can concentrate on their strengths – namely developing and distributing good and sustainable food. Foodnewcomer 2.0 – with new partners and ideas into the next business phase

Success needs reliable partners, a useful network and competent advisors. The strategic reorientation from a pure trading agency to a speciality wholesaler requires new approaches in the areas of digitalisation, growth and marketing. It quickly became clear that the Foodnewcomer team would have to grow steadily in order to meet the challenges of the reorientation and the associated restructuring. Through the cooperation with Gründernest, a modern business support service specialising in start-ups, foundations and innovation projects, I got to know Sören Frost (Founder and Managing Director of Gründernest) as well as Alexander Friede (Co-Founder and Managing Director of Gründernest). Sören Frost, a well-known head of the start-up scene in Saxony, has already accompanied more than 600 start-up projects throughout Saxony and is very well known in the local scene, also due to numerous event formats such as the FuckUp Night and the Start-up Breakfast. Alexander Friede, who has been an entrepreneur himself for 20 years, was able to gain elementary experience in building and scaling an internationally operating start-up, especially through his $70 million exit as co-founder and former CEO of Germany’s most successful dating app “LOVOO”. Foodnewcomer is very pleased to have won Sören Frost and Alexander Friede as investors and supporters. Together we want to tackle the many challenges and thus build the best trading platform for food start-ups and beverages. With the rebranding and the relaunch of the website, this new exciting phase is now also being launched publicly. The revision of the new online ordering system for food retailers is already in full swing and will also provide some innovative solutions in the future. Thanks to the expertise and network of Frost & Friede, Foodnewcomer has already taken a big step towards the future. With the foundation of the new Foodnewcomer GmbH, we also moved into the new business premises in the BusinessModel Lab on Comeniusstraße in Dresden.

Foodnewcomer the new wholesale for start-up products in food retailing

Start-ups in the areas of food, drinks and beverages have been springing up all over the place in recent years. The biggest challenges, especially for beverage start-ups, arise in the areas of placement and distribution to food retailers. Whether it’s minimum order quantities that are too high and often a deterrent for food retailers, a lack of transport networks and even too little storage space, the problems for start-ups are very diverse, time-consuming and cost-intensive. Foodnewcomer solves exactly these fundamental problems and thus offers a useful interface for start-ups as well as the food retail sector. Foodnewcomer’s activities go far beyond those of a classic wholesaler. Although access to retail has been somewhat simplified with the help of platforms such as EDEKA’s Foodstarter or Metro Group’s NX Food, these platforms do not solve the fundamental problems, especially in the distribution of the numerous and competing start-ups. Minimum order quantities that are too high for the start-up but often necessary deter many buyers from the various markets. Parcel and pallet shipping, especially in the beverage sector, is expensive and time-consuming to organise. The sales volumes per order are often too low and thus not lucrative enough for the manufacturer. Buyers have to order separately from each start-up. The resulting various goods receiving and logistics processes spread throughout the day are very time and personnel intensive for the individual stores. A bundled and reliable goods procurement incl. Delivery and invoicing from a central location was therefore the wish of many buyers with whom Foodnewcomer spoke.
